Welcome to the Sanford Libraries!

At all levels, students receive support and instruction that fosters a love of reading and ensures that they can successfully use information literacy skills to access, evaluate, and communicate information to support their learning.

Providing Academic Support

Three bright, spacious libraries provide access to resources that meet students’ 21st-century literacy and information needs from preschool through 12th grade. Teachers, librarians, and technology instructors collaborate to teach students how to use information technology in relevant and appropriate ways.

Students have ready access to a broad selection of print and digital materials and informational tools to learn how to conduct thorough and thoughtful research. Each library features

Books, reference sources, and periodicals appropriate for students' age level and supports the curriculum
Searchable, online library catalogs
Subscriptions to over fifty databases through the UD/Lib Search program with thousands of full-text articles and multimedia to support learning
Networked computers with protective Internet filters.

Hammonds Lower School Library

An open and inviting space filled with daily activity, exploration, and discovery, Hammonds Library welcomes children with a variety of books and digital resources. It is a starting point for research and inquiry for students in PreK to 4th grade.

Our goal is for children to grow through activities that inspire imagination, foster connections, and celebrate reading and learning.

Along with technology instruction, the library allows for collaboration with peers and provides a foundation in information literacy skills.
Middle School Library

A hub of learning and community activity, the Middle School library hosts classes, study halls, Morning Meeting, club meetings, student presentations, author visits, events, and After-School Care.

The library supports the curriculum with a variety of print, media, and information technology resources. In addition to getting comfortable locating and synthesizing print information, students learn how to use databases and evaluate other electronic sources of information for accuracy and suitability. A host of technology tools completes this 21st-century library.
Irene S. du Pont Upper School Library

Spacious and welcoming, du Pont Library is conducive to individual or small-group work throughout the day. To help students learn how to manage their time and responsibilities, this flexible, supported work space is available after school, during breaks, and at lunchtime. Students also meet here daily for study hall.

Laptops and Chromebooks allow students to conduct research, prepare documents and presentations, e-mail teachers or colleges, and consult online course syllabi. Students also receive support and guidance with information literacy skills—locating, evaluating, organizing, integrating, citing and presenting information from an array of sources—as well as help in selecting books for pleasure reading.

The library’s digital collection of fiction and nonfiction eBooks, reference sources, academic journals, magazines, newspapers, videos, and more is always available online via databases and electronic resources through the UD/Lib Search website.
