Thank you, Mark Anderson

For 14 years, Mark Anderson has been the driving force behind Sanford School’s remarkable transformation, leaving an enduring legacy of vision, leadership, and community. His tenure shaped Sanford into a flourishing institution, thriving in academics, arts, and athletics.

Under Mark’s stewardship, Sanford achieved unprecedented growth and success. Over the past decade, the school’s enrollment has grown from 570 students to a projected 700 by 2025-2026. The faculty and staff have reached new heights of creativity and dedication in their work with students.

Financially, Sanford’s endowment has nearly doubled, increasing from $7 million to $13 million. Meanwhile, the campus underwent a dramatic transformation with over a dozen major building projects completed, including the Geipel Center for Performing Arts, the Struthers Family Sports Center, the Pia Center for Creativity, and the impactful Exceptionally Sanford Campaign, which will enhance all three divisions of the school.

Mark’s leadership shone brightest during times of uncertainty. From navigating financial challenges to steering the school through the complexities of the COVID-19 pandemic, he led with humility, wisdom, and unwavering strength. His steady hand preserved Sanford’s values while fostering trust and unity within the community. Mark’s leadership was a blend of clarity, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to the school’s stability and progress.

Beyond his tangible achievements, Mark’s greatest legacy lies in the lives he touched. Students, families, and faculty alike describe him as a visionary leader and thoughtful listener who inspires confidence and nurtures potential in everyone.

In honor of Mark’s legacy and his unwavering dedication to Sanford, we invite you to make a gift to the Sanford Fund—a meaningful way to celebrate his impact and ensure that the school he helped shape continues to thrive for generations to come.
