Middle School Improvements

Wilson Hall and Town Hall are home to Sanford's Middle School. These buildings were dorms until the 1980s, when Sanford became exclusively a day school. The buildings were then joined together to form Sanford's Middle School, serving grades 5 to 8.

Planned capital projects will improve the educational environment for our 178 middle school students and provide a new green space for learning and play.

Beginning in the summer of 2025, we will:
  • Add modern air conditioning, heating, and air filtration to the Middle School building through the addition of five new ventilation units and efficient mini-split systems that are more environmentally responsible
  • Create additional green space next to the Middle School by moving the water retention basin (shown below) underground, providing a space for outdoor instruction and impromptu brain breaks.
Project Cost: $1 million

Project Outcomes

When the projects are complete, faculty and students will experience:

  • improved air quality
  • less temperature fluctuations in classrooms
  • improved ability to hear lessons and concentrate during work and test times due to a significant reduction in ambient noise (HVAC-related decibel levels will decrease by over 30dB, making classrooms eight times quieter)
  • an additional 12,800 sq. ft. of outdoor space in which to conduct lessons, or relax and play in a non-built, green environment
