Sanford junior Abby Krape ‘26 captivated audiences with her powerful recitations at the Delaware Poetry Out Loud State Finals, finishing as the runner-up in the statewide competition. Held at the historic Smyrna Opera House on February 20, the event brought together Delaware’s top high school poets to showcase their talents.
Abby delivered stunning performances of Flowers by Cynthia Zarin, Trying to See Auras at the Airport by Angela C. Trudell Vasquez, and No, I wasn’t meant to love and be loved by Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib (translated by Vijay Seshadri).
Poetry Out Loud is a national program that encourages students to engage with poetry through memorization and performance, helping them develop public speaking skills, confidence, and a deeper appreciation for literature.
