34 Sanford School Students Earn AP Scholar Recognition • Honors Include AP International Diploma

Thirty-four Sanford students have earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on college level Advanced Placement Program (AP) Exams.
Benson Cook ’15, who was named an AP Scholar with Distinction (read more about AP Scholar with Distinction requirements below), also earned an AP International Diploma. The AP International Diploma is granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on five or more AP Exams in three or more subject areas.

Four students were named National AP Scholars, receiving an average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more exams. The National AP Scholars are Zihan Ling ’15, Trevor Long ’15, Trevor Schlack ’15, and Xiaoxi Wang ’15. All four students also received AP Scholar with Distinction honors.

Nine Sanford students (along with Benson Cook and the National AP Scholars listed above) received the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on five or more exams. The students are: Adam Caulfield ’15, Max Curschmann ’16, Meera Gandhi ’15, Ivana Gatica ’15, John Jester ’16, Justin McLellan ’16, Kelsey Mendell ’15, Chase Rapine ’15, and Samantha Stevenson ’15.

Ten students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more exams. The students are: Joseph Basciani, ’15, Evan Carswell, ’16, Philip Charles, ’16, Cheris Congo ’15, Andrew Darlington ’15, Laura Davies ’16, Hannah Duffy ’15, Emily Friedman ’15, Susannah Halligan ’15, and Alexandra Somerville ’16.

Ten students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by receiving scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams. The AP Scholars are: Jeremy Bostick ’15, Alina Caulfield ’16, Asia DeShields ’15, Eliza Hering ’16, Katherine Holden ’15, Haris Nashed ’17, Rachel Rice ’16, Matthew Rosenthal ’16, Ana Sarmousakis ’16, and Ruilin Yang ’16.

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college–level courses while still in high school, and to receive college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. The exams are administered in May of each year.
