Middle School Student Vaults to Success in Gymnastics

Nationally ranked gymnast and Sanford seventh grader Zoë Collins recently earned high honors at two gymnastics competitions.
On January 16, Zoë, who trains with First State Gymnastics (FSG) in Newark, competed in the Tampa Bay Turners Invitational in Palmetto, Florida. The three-day meet took place at the Bradenton Area Convention Center, and featured USA Gymnastics Levels 2-10. Zoë, a Level 6 athlete, received a 9.375 score on Vault (1st Place), a 9.175 on Bars (3rd Place), a 9.125 on Beam (6th Place), a 9.575 on Floor (3rd Place). With her total score of 37.250, she earned 1st Place All-Around for Level 6, Ages 11-12.

On January 24, Zoë competed in the Shore Classic Invitational in Georgetown, Delaware. More than 400 young gymnasts competed in the Third Annual Shore Classic, a two-day competition at the Sussex Academy Gymnasium that features USA Gymnastics Levels 3-9. Zoë scored a 9.450 on Vault (1st Place), a 9.90 on Bars (1st Place, Zoë’s Personal Best, and FSG Event Record), a 9.650 on Beam, (1st Place), and a 9.60 on Floor (1st Place). She earned 1st Place All-Around with a score of 38.6 (Personal Best) in Level 6, Age 12.

Zoë is currently ranked #1 in the nation for top Bars score (9.90) and for All-Around Scores (38.6) for USA Gymnastics 2015 Level 6 Gymnasts. Zoë started doing gymnastics at age 2 and has been competing since age 5. She currently practices 20 hours a week at FSG, and will be competing in the upcoming 2015 Gymnastics Legends International Meet hosted by All Olympia Gymnastics Center in Los Angeles, California on February 22nd.
