Sanford Achieves Success in Private School Science Olympiad

Sanford's fourth through sixth grade Science Olympiad team competed in this year’s Private School Science Olympiad competition, on April 9th, at St. Mark's High School.
Sanford Middle School teacher Beth Whipple, who coached the fifth-grade team with colleague Ellen Haschak, said: "It was a terrific day with everyone learning, competing, and having fun.

The fourth-grade participants were: Ian Casto, Cailin Conway, Lucas DeVinney, Scarlett Helmecki, Olivia Opher, Andrew Taylor, Joseph Sherrier, and Brighton Sagrans. The team earned medals in the following events:
1st place in Sports Science: Brighton Sagrans, Andrew Taylor, Scarlett Helmecki
1st place in Estimation: Scarlett Helmecki, Lucas DeVinney
2nd place in Spaghetti Towers: Ian Casto, Cailin Conway
2nd place in Interpreting Graphs: Scarlett Helmecki
3rd place in Health and Fitness: Olivia Opher, Cailin Conway, Ian Casto
4th place in Egg Drop: Joseph Sherrier, Lucas DeVinney
4th place in Paper Planes: Joseph Sherrier, Lucas DeVinney

Sanford's fifth-grade participants were: Caleb Casto, Emerson Cuffe, Joshie Devane, Kendall Giordano, Isaiah Johnson, Noah Kerzner, Katarina Swann, and Andrew Timmons. The team earned medals in the following events:
1st place in Number Puzzles: Kendall Giordano
1st place in Our Solar System: Katarina Swann
4th place in Interpreting Graphs: Noah Kerzner

Our sixth-grade team consisted of: Sydney DiPietro, Alex Goldman, Lindsay Kalish, Andrew Kedash, Trenton LaPoint, Joseph McMillan, Dominic Pompeii, and Morgan Shirley. The team earned medals in the following events:
1st place in Spaghetti Tower: Morgan Shirley, Trenton LaPoint
2nd place in Number Puzzles: Dominic Pompeii
4th place in Light and Mirrors: Sydney DiPietro, Trenton LaPoint, Joseph McMilllan
4th place in Name that Scientist: Andrew Kedash
4th place in Bridges: Andrew Kedash, Dominic Pompeii
