Carter Ayars Named News Journal Athlete of the Week

The Wilmington News Journal named senior field hockey player Carter Ayars “Athlete of the Week” for the week of September 21.
The honor came after Carter scored the only goal in a 1–0 victory over Westtown, and then all three goals in the Warriors’ 3–0 win over Tatnall. Carter is helping lead the hockey team, currently 4–1, off to another strong start to the season.

“She has the ability, like some other players in the state, to take over a game,” Sanford coach Anne Brooking said. “But she really understands like everybody else on our team, she’s a role player. And she’s willing to play that role…But when the situation calls for it, she can do a little bit more and will do a little bit more.” Anne also described the versatile Carter’s technical skill and hard-hitting power as assets on the field.

“We’re having so much fun,” Carter told the News Journal. “We’re getting really close as a team, so it’s been a lot of fun…It’s a good start so far.”

Carter, who enjoys her math and science classes when she’s not playing field hockey, has verbally committed to continue her athletic career at the University of Louisville next fall.

Congratulations to Carter, and go Warriors!
