Scarlett Helmecki '24 First to Earn Eagle Scout Honors

Scarlett Helmecki '24, a founding member of Scouts BSA Troop 1923, has become the first female Eagle Scout registered in the state of Delaware and in Boy Scouts of America's Del-Mar-Va Council. Scarlett will be recorded as a member of the inaugural class of female Eagle Scouts nationally, which BSA conferred on February 8, 2021, to approximately 750 young women who earned the rank of Eagle Scout in less than 24 months. BSA opened its eponymous program to young women on February 1, 2019.
Even with Scarlett's tremendous drive and determination, which has included earning 23 merit badges and camping more than 35 nights in all weather, no one reaches this goal alone. Scarlett and her family are grateful for the support and assistance she received from the Sanford School community in completing her Eagle Scout project on campus in October 2020 and for its ongoing support of her troop since its founding.

Sanford School is proud to have had many Eagle Scouts and Girl Scout Gold and Silver Award earners as students and teachers over its 82 years, many of whom have chosen Sanford's community as the beneficiaries of their projects and of countless hours of community service.

Scarlett was recently featured on NPR and Delaware Public Media.
