Gatica Earns Scholarship, Drawing Award from Delaware Foundation for Visual Arts

Sanford senior Ivana Gatica has earned a $500 scholarship from the Delaware Foundation for the Visual Arts, earning fourth place for her portfolio entry in the annual Art Scholarship Competition.
In addition, her entry in the DFVA “Excellence in Drawing” competition, “Insomnia,” was displayed at the DFVA Spring Art Show at the Hagley Soda House from March 13–15. It will also appear in DFVA’s 2016 Excellence in Drawing calendar.

The DFVA, a nonprofit dedicated to developing networks of encouragement for aspiring visual artists throughout Delaware, started the Excellence in Drawing Program to “stimulate interest in the arts and to give recognition to the Delaware high school artist.” They chose to feature drawings because the medium is a “traditional time-honored method of study that ensures a strong foundation for future artistic development.” Delaware seniors who submit to the Excellence in Drawing competition, and plan to major in art in college, are also eligible to enter the Art Scholarship Competition.

Congratulations to Ivana!
