Sanford Student Excels at Regional Dance Competition
Sanford junior Ashley Blackwell has been dancing at the American Dance Academy (ADA) in Hockessin since she was three years old, and has consistently earned high honors in local and regional dance competitions.
Earlier this month, Ashley sustained this high level of performance when she and her team traveled to compete at the Artists Simply Human (ASH) dance workshop in Philadelphia (January 17–18). A piece choreographed and danced by ADA’s senior team, entitled “Winter,” was one of only a few dances chosen for the final performance showcase—out of a pool of hundreds of dances performed over the course of the weekend.
In addition, Ashley and her teammate and fellow Sanford student Latrece Hopkins both won prestigious ASH scholarships for their audition performances, as did three of their other ADA teammates. Of approximately 500 dancers in their level from around the region, only 20–30 are awarded this high honor. The scholarship gives these talented dancers the chance to compete on a national level.
Congratulations to Ashley, Latrece, and their teammates at ADA!
