Sanford Makes History with 11th DIAA Boys Basketball State Championship
Sanford School has once again solidified its place in Delaware basketball history, securing a state-record 11th DIAA Boys Basketball Championship with a hard-fought 37-34 victory over Dover at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Defense set the tone for the game, with both teams forcing turnovers and struggling to find consistent offensive momentum. The Warriors managed just 10 points in the first half but came alive in the third quarter, thanks to a momentum-shifting performance from senior Khareem Hart ’25.
Trailing 25-19 with under three minutes left in the third, Hart sparked a 10-point surge, draining back-to-back three-pointers to push Sanford ahead 29-25. The game remained a battle down the stretch, but Sanford’s relentless defensive pressure was the deciding factor.
This victory was particularly meaningful for Head Coach Khallid Hart ’12, who led the Warriors to three state titles as a player and now adds his first championship as a head coach.
Head of School, Mark Anderson, shared, "I first met Khallid during his senior year—it was also my first year at Sanford—and even then, he stood out as a hardworking, humble, and dedicated student-athlete. Now, most of our Lower School students know him as ‘Mr. Hart,’ their kindergarten teacher. To see him add his own championship banner to the gym, right next to the three he won as a student, is a really special moment."
This historic championship win continues Sanford’s legacy as the most successful boys' basketball program in Delaware history.
