Sanford’s Model UN club made an impressive debut at the DELMUN conference, with students tackling global issues, earning recognition, and preparing for future events.
This past Saturday, four of our Upper School students from Sanford’s new Model United Nations club attended the DELMUN conference! They took on the roles of world leaders and historical figures, engaging in thoughtful debate and tackling the complexities of global issues. DELMUN is a student-run event with a rich history of fostering critical thinking and a deeper understanding of the modern world. Sanford’s Model UN club was started this year by two enterprising seniors, C.J. Walters and Liam Handloff.
At Saturday’s conference:
CJ Walters ‘25 took on the role of General Tojo, and Siobhan Lucey ‘25 served as Commander Genda in a Pearl Harbor simulation.
Tony Wang ‘28 represented the USA in a debate on universal healthcare.
Quinn Murphy ‘25 represented Nigeria and earned an Honorable Mention for his contributions to the cybersecurity committee.
Edwin Way, an upper school history teacher, and the club’s sponsor, chaperoned the conference. Students are preparing for another MUN conference in April.
