Essential Responsibilities:

Student-Centered Teaching: Develop and implement age-appropriate and engaging lesson plans that cater to the unique needs and interests of preschool children. Foster a love for learning through hands-on, play-based activities that encourage exploration and creativity.

Diversity and Inclusion: Create a classroom environment that celebrates diversity and fosters inclusivity. Integrate culturally relevant materials and experiences into the curriculum, ensuring that every child feels valued and represented.

Collaborative Teaching: Work closely with a co-teacher and primary department to plan, coordinate, and implement daily activities. Foster a collaborative and supportive teaching environment that encourages open communication, shared ideas, and mutual respect.

Individualized Learning: Recognize and respond to the diverse learning styles and abilities of each child. Implement strategies to address individual needs, providing differentiated instruction and support as required.

Parental Involvement: Establish and maintain positive communication with parents, keeping them informed about their child's progress, activities, and any concerns that may arise. Encourage parent involvement in classroom activities and school events.

Classroom Management: Create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment. Implement effective classroom management strategies that promote a sense of community, respect, and cooperation among students.

Professional Development: Stay informed about the latest educational trends, teaching methods, and research. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and contribute to the school's commitment to excellence.

Necessary Skill Sets:
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written) skills with both children and adults.
  • Organizational skills to manage short- and long-term projects.
  • Depth of understanding of child development in the primary years.
  • Ability to plan and implement high-quality curriculum that is child-centered, developmentally appropriate, open-ended and process-oriented
  • Outstanding classroom management skills 
  • Ability to craft developmental progress reports for each child based on child observation and assessment. Regular communication with parents is by means of meetings, newsletters, phone calls, email, and individual parent conferences.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have the following credentials, experience, skills, and traits:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Proven experience working with preschool-aged children in an educational setting.
  • Deep knowledge of topics related to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, and a demonstrated commitment to professional and personal development under the DEIB umbrella, and a commitment to Sanford’s strategic, mission-aligned DEIB work.
  • Willingness to learn and implement current and emerging educational technologies
  • Educator Requirements: Birth through Second Grade – Delaware Department of Education
