Middle School Curriculum
Head of Middle School: Edward P. Humphreys
The Sanford Middle School provides a comfortable and secure environment for students in grades five through eight. Exposure to diverse course offerings allows each student to discover and develop his or her unique talents. The warm, approachable faculty members believe that education must be enjoyable in order to be successful. They create memorable learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. Close friendly relationships between teachers and students generate trust and cooperation. Discipline is based on counseled understanding of the rules, rather than on edicts to control behavior.
All students are encouraged, supported, and appreciated. They are challenged at levels consistent with their current abilities. Academic success is based on a child's skill development and content knowledge, as well as on a pre-determined standard for each grade. While supported by close communication between teachers and parents, each child builds an honest awareness of himself or herself. Students become proud of their individuality and respectful of each other. The Middle School is a stable environment filled with genuine care and concern for each child. With teachers as their guides, the students assume responsibility for their work, their behavior, and their community.
